15 Questions to Ask a Wedding Content Creator Before You Book

The questions that matter most are about what you receive and when, who owns it, how the creator works next to your photographer and film crew, and what happens to the footage if a phone dies. On a Lake Como wedding you add a fifth group: villa rules, boats, Italian vendors and travel. Below are the 15 I would ask in your place, what a good answer sounds like, and how we answer them ourselves.

Deliverables and delivery time

1. Do I get raw clips, edited videos, or both?

A good answer is specific. "Some edits plus a folder of clips" tells you nothing. Ask how many edited pieces, how long each one is, and whether the unedited material is included or costs extra.

Our answer: every package includes edited Reels, a Highlight Reel and the RAW materials.

2. How many Reels, and how long is each one?

Look for numbers. A Reel can be 7 seconds or 90, and those are very different pieces of work.

Ours: Basic includes 2 Reels up to 15 seconds and 1 Highlight Reel up to a minute. Extended and Hybrid include 3 Reels and the Highlight Reel, and Hybrid adds a VHS Reel up to 30 seconds. Prices and hours for each are on our pricing section.

3. When will the edited content arrive?

At the time of writing, The Knot says most content creators deliver within 24 to 48 hours. Anything much slower and you lose the point of hiring one, because the moment to post has passed.

We deliver the edit in 48 hours on the phone packages and 72 hours on Hybrid, since the VHS footage takes longer to work with.

4. Will I see anything during the wedding itself?

Some creators send nothing until the edit. Others send clips while the day is still going, so you or a friend can post that evening. Ask which one you are getting.

We send some clips to the couple during the wedding, on all three packages.

Rights and posting

5. Who owns the footage, and can you use it for your own marketing?

The Knot recommends settling ownership and crediting before you sign, and I agree. A good answer is written in the contract, not promised in a chat. If you want your wedding kept off the creator's Instagram, say so now.

Our answer: we publish the content we film in our portfolio and on our social media. If you want some shots kept private, tell us and we remove those.

6. Can you post on my accounts, or only send files?

Some couples hand over their login for the day, and most prefer to post themselves. Neither is wrong. What you want is a clear answer on whether posting is part of the service, and a creator who asks before tagging venues, guests or vendors.

Our answer: we can post on your accounts if you want us to and give us access. Otherwise we send you the files.

Working with your photographer and film team

7. Have you worked alongside a film crew before?

This is the question I care about most. A content creator moves constantly and gets in close, which is the opposite of how a filmmaker works. A good answer describes how they stay out of the photographer's and videographer's frames, especially during the ceremony and first dance.

We work next to photo and film teams on most weddings, often alongside YASIROV Films, the studio I co-founded, and staying out of their shots is part of the job. There is more on how the day works in what a wedding content creator actually does.

8. Is this a replacement for a videographer?

The honest answer is no. Phone content is for posting this week. A wedding film is what you watch in ten years. If a creator suggests you can skip the film, be careful. If you can only afford one, book the film.

9. Who do I brief, and who do you take direction from on the day?

You want one coordinator or planner who briefs everyone, and a creator who checks the timeline with them before the day. A creator who turns up without having spoken to anyone else is a risk.

On the wedding day I check in with the photo and film team so we know where each of us will be.

Backups and phones

10. What happens if your phone breaks or runs out of space?

Ask how many devices they bring, how they handle storage and charging over a long day, and what the plan is if one fails. "It's never happened" is a weak answer. A real answer describes a process.

11. How do you back up the footage, and how is it delivered?

A good answer covers when clips are copied off the phone, where they are kept until delivery, and how you will receive them. Ask how long they keep a copy afterwards too, in case a link expires before you download everything.

Our answer: we deliver the files through a download link and keep a copy for up to 1 month. Save everything to your own phone or cloud as soon as it arrives.

Lake Como and Italy

12. Have you checked the villa's rules on filming?

Lake Como villas often have their own rules about where vendors can go and when, and these differ from one venue to the next. A good creator asks you or your planner for the venue's guidelines in advance rather than finding out on the day.

13. How do you handle boat transfers?

Many Como weddings move guests by boat, and a boat is one of the best places for relaxed footage. Ask whether the creator travels on the same boat as the couple and has thought about the timing at the jetty, so they are not left behind on the wrong shore.

14. How will you communicate with the Italian vendors?

Your planner, venue staff, caterers and boat drivers may mostly speak Italian. Ask whether the creator speaks it or will go through the planner. Either can work, as long as they have thought about it.

Our answer: I speak English, Ukrainian and Russian, but not Italian. If something needs Italian on the day, your planner or venue coordinator is the person to bridge it.

15. Are travel and accommodation included?

Destination weddings are where hidden costs appear. The Knot notes that travel fees can raise the price of a package. Ask for the total in writing.

Our prices are before tax, and a €500 deposit secures the date. For Lake Como weddings, our travel and accommodation are included. For Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda we add a fixed €500 for travel and accommodation, plus tax. Anywhere else we quote them separately.

How to use these questions

You don't need to send all 15 in one email. Start with 1 to 4 and 15, which settle what you get and what it costs. Save the rest for a call. The way a creator answers 7 and 10 will tell you most about how they work under pressure. If you are still not sure you need one at all, read why every Como wedding needs a content creator. FAQ

How much does a wedding content creator cost?

At the time of writing, The Knot puts most US packages from around $1,000, and the UK site Wedding Day Moments lists prices from £399 to £950 for a full day. Our Lake Como packages are €1,200, €1,700 and €2,000 before tax, with travel and accommodation on the lake included.

What is the most important question to ask?

Ask what you receive and when: the number and length of edited videos, whether raw clips are included, and the delivery time in hours.

Should a content creator post on the day?

Only if you want them to. Agree in advance whether they send clips during the wedding, who posts them, and on which accounts. We can post on your accounts if you give us access, or simply send you the files.

Can a content creator and a videographer work at the same wedding?

Yes, and they should. Ask the creator how they stay out of the film crew's frames, and introduce them to your videographer before the day.

Do I need a content creator if I already have a wedding film?

Not strictly. The film is the record you keep. A content creator gives you vertical clips to share within days, while the film is still being edited.
